About La Habra

HISTORY of LA HABRA - La Habra Real Estate  In 1839, Don Mariano Reyes Roldan was granted 6,698 acres of land.  He named his rolling hills and valleys in Southern California 'Rancho La Habra' or 'Pass through the hills'.  Used as cattle country, Abel Stearns purchased the land.  Soon, heavy flooding and severe drought brought an end to the cattle rancher's dreams.  News spread to the east that parcels of land were being sold in the 1890´s and families soon arrived to try their luck at harvesting grain and raising sheep. One of these families was Milhous, grandparents of our nation´s 37th President Richard Milhous Nixon.  Richard Nixon opened his first law office here in La Habra which is currently the City's Community Center. la habra homes

With water from the San Gabriel River, and the Pacific Electric Railroad on its way in 1908, La Habra bustled with avocado, citrus and walnut groves.  Once oil was discovered among the precious rolling hills, the town was inundated with oil and citrus workers.  Soon restaurants, banks, general stores, school, newspaper, and a meat market in1916, started the small town into a full fledge community and the property values skyrocketed.

The city of La Habra was incorporated in 1925 with a population of 3,000.  By 1928 the city was known as the largest avocado center of Southern California.  When La Habra was given the prestigious award of All-American City in 1974 there were over 100 service clubs and civic organizations contributing to the well balanced city's future.  The city was also known as the first city west of the Mississippi River to build and support a Children´s Museum.  The museum has over 90,000 visitors each year.  La Habra´s police department has first-rate model programs for crime prevention and community based policing.
