Fullerton Fox Theatre
They don´t just show movies here at the Fox Theatre, they have fundraisers for important causes, special screenings, and other activities.
Yes, the 80-year-old local historic landmark has a job to do once again -- bringing the community together. Located in beautiful downtown Fullerton, the updating and redeveloping of the Fox Fullerton Theatre Center is finished with Phase one, and Phase two is almost complete. The local citizens originally got together and raised over $250,000 to start the revamping.
The theatre was designed by architect Raymond Kennedy in 1925, who also developed the plans for Grauman´s Chinese Theatre a few years later. The Fox Theatre was built by C. Stanley Chapman to show silent movies and vaudeville performances. Mary Pickford graced the film premiers, and the Mickey Mouse Club would meet there before there was television.
The theatre changed hands many times before it closed in 1987. Paused in a state of disrepair for almost twenty years, the citizens decided to bring it back to life. You can volunteer for various work and events at the theatre and find out how to donate at the website Save The Fox. On October 25th 2006, The Fox Fullerton Theatre Complex was officially on the National Registry of Historic Places.
I remember seeing the movie 'Rocky' there, and also remember being able to spend a whole afternoon watching three different movies. We had school field trips to watch movies and plays. I never did make it up to the balcony.
